You know what's really friendly and welcoming? (Not this!)
Some of the members of our bishopric stopped by our house a few nights ago, because they "like to get to know and welcome new members of the ward." We've been in this ward for 4 months now . . . nice try, though. But I can forgive them for that--I'm sure they're busy, and it's a pretty new bishopric.
But then they stayed for almost an hour, which might make it sound like it was a really fun visit, and we all had a great time. False. The hour was filled with nothing but one counselor bragging about his vacations to exotic countries, his 5 big screen TVs (not exaggerating--"I don't even know what to do with so many big screens! Why should one family have 5 big screens?!" I dunno, buddy, but I"d be happy to take one off your hands, if they're really such a big problem for you), and his brand new 3000 square foot office he's having built. Whoop-de-doo for you.
And ready for the kicker? During the entire hour, neither one of them directed a single comment or question to me. I briefly entertained the idea that maybe I had gone invisible. Literally, not one word spoken to me the entire evening. They asked Jeff about his schooling, mission, job, plans, hobbies . . . and did not say a single word to me the entire hour. When I asked them questions, they responded . . . to Jeff. Ummm, hello?
Extremely welcoming. We really love this ward.
(This picture has nothing to do with this post, but I feel like a post has to have a picture. This was taken when Forrest was a sickypants a few weeks ago. Poor little fella.)
Only another, what, 8 months before you can move. Also, did you make that quilt? If so do you have the pattern because it is ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a loving bishopric. Uh, yikes! That is so strange because you are like the easiest person to talk to. Hopefully they become more personable. This is a little off topic but have you ever seen Teen Mom? Forrest looks really similar to one of the toddlers--Bentley. Forrest looks so cute here.
ReplyDeleteHuh. That's too bad! Especially since you are WAY cooler than Jeff. ;) They obviously don't know what they missed out on!
ReplyDeleteGotta love pleasant company like that! I'm sorry :-(
ReplyDeleteStupid! But if they really didn't see you there, maybe they won't give you a calling... just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteI moved into our current ward the same time as my cousin Christina, and we lived next door to each other. The RS presidency went and visited her right away, gave her a VT assignment, a welcome basket, the whole shebang. They didn't ever come to see me! I'm still a little bitter, and haven't been to RS since. (I have, however, been to YW every week...don't worry.)
LAME. It really is difficult being in a ward that you struggle to like. So sorry. The other classic Bishopric move that I love besides the stay-too-long is the show-up-unannounced. This happens a lot more in Utah where families are closer together and the Bishopric has a greater chance of "being in the neighborhood" for another reason. Another reason to get out, Rachel (I know you just got back, but hopefully you're thinking about getting out already).
ReplyDeleteI hate getting ignored and every question getting deferred to Nathan. Seriously, what is with people? Our ward in the South was a lot like that. Grrrrrrr.....
ReplyDeleteSexist. You know you were thinking it. They need some education on what the priesthood really is. Sorry Rachel.
